So, I'm sure many of you are aware that thanks to the incompetence of nick the first episode of legend of korra has been leaked. Quite frankly, it's fantastic, and Korra is made of sexy. It has made me want to draw more Korra.
You know what I love most about drawing Korra? I don't have to exaggerate shit. (Though, sometimes I do because I suck.) I don't have to make her breasts bigger. They're the perfect size. I don't have to change her figure. It's just right. I don't have to give her more muscles. She has the right amount of tone. Her costume is simple, complementary, and easy to remember. All in all it's an easy design for me to pull off, at least in comparison to most other character designs.
I'm not going to spoil anything for those who haven't seen it, but from what I've seen this seems much more interesting than the first series. It deals with the more complex issue of classism(sp) and I think that we're in for something that doesn't just exceed the first series, but wholly shatters it. I'm betting that by the time we are done with Korra, the original series will seem like M. Night's movie by comparison.
I was that impressed.
However, after downloading and watching it I felt really guilty and I've been thinking of a way to reconcile that guilt; to find balance as it were.
During the leaks I asked myself how exactly promoting Korra in harmed the creators in any measurable way. Certainly, it garners more attention for Korra and that's great. Now I wonder about how exactly the creators are compensated, and how nick views this whole thing. I wonder if it affects ad revenue and potential projects like this.
I just get the feeling that there is some adverse affect that I am totally unaware of, and it makes me feel like a piece of shit.
Not too long ago, Louis CK did an experiment where he sold his comedy show online free of DRM for a very modest fee of five dollars. By the time he was done with it he had earned over 1 million dollars. The experiment proved that people are willing to pay for content.
Well, this episode of Korra was premium content if you ask me. Do you think it would be too much to actually, you know, pay for it? Not much, just like a couple of dollars sent to the nick studios with something like "thanks for the episode." Sort of as a way to show that we aren't piece of shit leeches who feel entitled to the things that we want.
I don't know, I know this idea will never leave the ground. I have a feeling I'm alone in my sentiments.
The Korra art jam is by no means over. These are all of the entries I am currently aware of. If you gave me an entry and it's not on here, tell me. I lose messages real quickly if I take a day or two off from Deviant Art.
I look forward to seeing more work and posting it. Remember, you can do anything you want as long as Korra is in it, and it can be posted on DA without getting taken down.
