I almost didn't make this. I started looking for reference and found that someone else had already painted this situation. The basic sketch was on my computer for months. Then I found top 10 list of advice for artists. And one of em was "Everythings been done... but not by you."
Originality is really overrated. I mean, some of the greatest artist throughout history have used other source material. Michelangelo didn't invent the stories he portrayed on the sistine chapel. Rembrandt did a sketch of the last supper, despite leonardo having already created his master piece.
So I decided, what the hell, this may have been done before, but that doesn't mean I can't give it a go.
I worry that the motion blur sort of blurred his left leg, so I kind of dilineated it a little bit. But tried to not over power the motion blur.
Also, this is my take on Sanguinus' armor, I know there are many canonical differences.
This a wonderful portrayal of the gallant and noble Sanguinus battling the dark forces of Chaos. Despite what other critics may say, their is no such thing as being unoriginal when it comes to art (Besides flatout tracing it line for line). I would be extremely happy to know that you take great pride in your work and continue to create masterpieces such as this in order to not only fulfill your own aspirations but to inspire others to do so themselves. I will agree though that the motion blur seems to some off a little strong, but I can still enjoy this painting to its fullest.
Not sure if this is the one Sanguinius breaks the Daemon's back and throws him over the stairs of Terra, or when Ka'Bandha utterly smacks the crap out of him. Seeing as I see no grand buildings of Terra, the latter. Amazing work here, great job.
Two thoughts: 1) this is amazing. 2) I saw this and immediately thought, "Sanguinius is about to kill a Bloodthirster by punching it in the face." and that thought made my day.
Nice work. I'm guessing this is during the big siege? Been a while, but I do remember the Angel wrestling with a Bloodthurster in mid air, then breaking it's back on his knee before closing the gates...
