This will be a long ass description. Sorry. This is school related so I have to talk about it at length.
I'm going to edit this and put in expression examples and what not, but Medri has waited long enough.
Basically, the commissioner wanted me to do an image of their OC. He was also kind enough to let me make this an illustration project. Since I was drawing someone elses character, the idea became to re-imagine the character for animation and come up with a turn around for her.
One thing my teacher has been pushing me to do is find my voice. To find a way to approach something that is uniquely "me" As a part of that push I was encouraged not to copy the refernces the commissioner gave me and instead come up with what I thought would look good.
The concept was interesting; she's a tribal 20s steam punk blue alien mob boss daughter with a penchant for adventure and sarcasm.
I am particularly fond of Disney animators. So my goal was to make something that could arguably be made by someone in that group, while at the same time maintaining my own sense of visual identity.
You'll hopefully see shades of Fred Moore, Glen Keane, and the illustrious
To be completely honest, I think I screwed up in many places. The pose is wierd, the front view is odd, and the consistency of the turn around is questionable.
Yet... somehow I got an A.
